Getting Ready for the New School Year...

Posted on August 14, 2012 at 12:15 AM

Summer is quickly coming to an end...,, Oh my! It just seems like the days are flying by and school will be starting soon. If you are like me, you are starting to look over material for the upcoming year; planning weekly schedules; looking to purchase whole curriculums, or filling in gaps. And this is a great time to do so. There are still a few weeks before you need to get started with actual classes. Plenty of time to still order curriculum or Unit Studies. As a matter of fact, here are some great places to look for items for the upcoming school year: 1.) Looking for traditional curriculums and textbooks? Here are some wonderful places to get some bargains on "gently used" schoolbooks: If you like the Classical Approach, here is an excellent site: http://www.veritaspress.com If you want more traditional Homeschooling, try perusing these sites: http://saxonpublishers.hmhco.com/en/saxonpublishers.htm http://www.abeka.com write down the titles of the textbooks you want and then look for some bargains at the following locations "eBay", "Half.com", and "Amazon.com". Finally, if you are not interested in traditional Homeschooling and wish to venture into the 21st century of available electronics, there are some excellent Curriculums, Unit Studies, and Live Online classes -- you can use your comeputer, tablets, Kindles or Nooks, etc and go completely portable (and paperless if you like). Our kids LOVE using the computer and tablet --it is personal, much more indepth, and interesting -- shakes things up a bit. The computer is a terrific mode of teaching, especially for the "hands on" student who is bored with just reading. Try one -- and I think you and your children will be hooked! There are some wonderful "Back to School Sales" going on now at Currclick.com (a HUGE online catalog of available Homeschooling electronic media) and, of course, I have to put a plug in for BrandenburgStudies --we specialize in Science, History and Literature for the Homeschooling Family with a wide variety of pdf and WEB-Interactive downloadable Units. They are very reasonably priced, for the one-income familly in mind (and our Online Store enables me to stay home with our own children so we can continue to Homeschool too :-)
